‘We are proceeding
with electrification.
That is certain’
Aviko. Where sustainability grows.
Sustainability has played an important role in Aviko’s daily transport since 2014. An electric truck was purchased in order to make the commuting route between the port in Doesburg and the plant site in Steenderen, and possibly other routes as well in the future, more sustainable. Frank Scholten (Aviko transport manager): ‘This route is perfect for electrification.’
Why specifically this route? Frank: ‘Aviko has always been a pioneer in the area of sustainability. Electrification of road transport is a logical next step. We have many transport flows at Aviko. In addition to sustainability, an electric vehicle for such a short route also implies other benefits: it is quieter and you no longer emit particulate matter. That is better for the environment.’
A vision of the future
Frank: ‘This is a commuting route stretching 45 km back and forth, and that is perfectly possible with such a vehicle. The range of electric trucks is increasing all the time. So we are also considering whether we can electrify the routes between our location and our cold stores. But this will take persistence, because such upscaling takes a long time. We do it step by step: with the right partners and along the right routes. It is a very interesting puzzle.’
Gathering information
Frank: ‘We stay informed of sustainability improvements being made in logistics by reading, closely monitoring developments and inviting people. It is important to do that together with our suppliers, so that we make the right sustainability steps in our logistics as part of a solid network.’
